Check out the past Interact events
There are usually four or five Interact events a semester at Newark Memorial. They are often in association with Newark Rotary or the Viola Blythe Center, and range from sorting items, to serving at affairs, to simply walking.

The AIDS Walk
The AIDS WALK took place in San Jose on October 22. Many people came out to help benefit the local AIDS Organization. There were booths where participants got a chance to win prizes and a local band performed. |
Fall Leadership Conference
The Interact Fall Leadership Conference (also known as The Live Oaks Challenge) was held on October 28 at Milpitas High School. The Conference had speakers from the region, Interact District 5170, including the district governor, Tom Pae. The conference is not restricted to only officers; any member of Interact could join. There were workshops and presentations for both officers and potential officers. Information about how to enhance, publicize, and build Interact clubs was shared, along with games and a break for lunch. The Conference was a place where you could meet other Interact members from different schools and share ideas and experiences.

Trick or Treat for Cans
Interact decided to celebrate Halloween a little bit early this year. The Friday before, Interact and Rotary teamed up to trick or treat for cans around the Lake Area. Though trick or treaters didn't get a response from some of the houses, many homes generously donated food items to LOV Newark. The cans were then delivered to LOV Newark where we met other Interacters from the area who also went trick or treating. After the 4,535 collected cans were counted and sorted, members relaxed and enjoyed themselves at a party at LOV Newark. |
Crab Feed
The Rotary sponsored Crab Feed was held on November 18th at the Newark Pavilion. At the event, a crab dinner is served and a raffle and an auction are held. Our own Mrs. Breen won a raffle item, a wine tote. The Interacters served the guests crab, pasta and salad. The music was loud, but that added to the festivities. Servers received the new Interact shirt, and had some crab and pasta. Thanks to Rotary for letting us help out, and we'll be back next year!

Gift Wrapping and Canned Food Sorting
The Gift Wrapping and Canned Food Sorting was held at the Cargill Salt Factory. There, Interacters helped the Viola Blythe Center prepare boxes of canned food, and wrap gifts that will be given out during the holiday season. The Viola Bylthe Center provides services for low income families in Newark. The work they do is important and donations are always welcome. Some Interacters discovered the many varieties of beans and tomatoes there are, while others learned the importance of tape to presents. |
Los Posadas at Schilling Elementary
Los Posadas is a Mexican tradition that celebrates Mary and Jesus' search for a place to stay for the night. Carolers go around house to house singing, representing Mary and Jesus. The carolers went around the block, and came back to Schilling for refreshments and entertainment. Juice, Mexican pastries, tamales, and chips and salsa were served. The room was decorated with ballons and posters. A raffle was also held. Thank you to the Interacters who stayed behind to serve, went out caroling, and those who helped clean-up!

Viola Blythe Childrens' Christmas Party
Santa Claus made a visit to Schilling Elementary at the Childrens' Christmas Party, held by the Viola Blythe Center. Interact, Fremont Christian and Blythe Center volunteers teamed together for this special event. There were face painters, a magician, and of course, Saint Nick himself. Children got to meet Santa, receive a gift and a stuff animal. Over 250 kids were there and it was a wonderful party. |
Barnes and Nobles Gift Wrapping
On Christmas Eve, Interact provided free gift wrapping for Barnes and Nobles customers. Tape was used up, wrapping paper ripped in half unintentionally, and little paper stars were made. From a wide selection of books, to the five choices for paper Interact helped those procrastinating get shopping done in one stop.
